"I know my story. I just don't know how to turn it into a book."
One of my earliest clients was a young entrepreneur in the gig economy who wanted to write something that would outlive him.
The book wasn't meant for the market. It was meant for his children.
He wanted them to understand where he came from, the sacrifices that shaped him, and the journey that eventually led to his success.
Like many founders, he had already tried writing it himself.
There were scattered documents, unfinished chapters, random notes, and memories spread across multiple files. The problem wasn't a lack of stories. It was turning decades of experiences into a narrative that someone would actually want to read.
His biggest concern was whether I could understand him well enough to write as him.
"I know my story. I just don't know how to turn it into a book."
How We Worked
Before writing a single chapter, I spent nearly a month understanding the person behind the story.
Across more than 20 hours of conversations, reflective questionnaires, and story-mapping sessions, we explored not just what happened, but why those moments mattered. I paid close attention to how he naturally spoke, what memories carried emotional weight, and which parts of his journey he wanted his children to remember long after he was gone.
Only after building that foundation did I begin writing.
The Outcome
Four months later, the manuscript was complete.
More importantly, it sounded like him.
The book became a personal legacy for his family and a key career milestone. It also made him one of the first published authors in his industry.
What started as a private family project later boosted his credibility as a young entrepreneur. It also gave him a lasting body of work that showed who he truly was.
